Weather Conditions
Please be prepared for a variety of weather conditions. If you are not familiar with the weather of the Virginia and North Carolina Mountains, here is some valuable insight. For every 1000' increase in elevation, expect the temperature to drop 2.2 - 5.3 degrees. The climate and weather of the Virginia and North Carolina Mountains is comparable to Canada! The average daily high temperature in July is 68 degrees and low temperature 55 degrees on Grandfather Mountain. Also, be prepared for rain, higher winds, and quickly changing weather at these higher elevations.
To summarize, be prepared for extremes, as has been said, "If you don't like the weather, just wait 5 minutes."
Communication
Teams are encouraged to have a means of communication between support vehicles and a means of communication to contact local authorities/emergency personnel. Black and Blue officials at each exchange/support zone will have access to communication equipment and emergency contact information.
